Information Sheet

What does my participation involve?

Your participation involves completing a brief demographic questionnaire. You will then take part in a listening task. The task must be completed using headphones. In each evaluation (case), you will listen to three music excerpts and indicate which of two comparison excerpts best matches the reference across five musical attributes. Detailed instructions and examples will be provided before the task begins.

Each case might take about 1 minute to complete. While you are free to complete as many cases as you wish, we ask for a minimum of 10 evaluations (approximately 15 minutes in total, including instructions). You may continue to evaluate more cases. The full experiment contains up to 400 cases.

Your complete evaluations earn you points and contribute to a live ranking. You may skip individual cases or withdraw from the study at any time without providing a reason. The experiment can be paused and resumed later using your participant ID.

Compensation

Your participation is voluntary. However, if you complete at least 10 evaluations, you may optionally enter a prize draw to win one of four €25 vouchers. Entry into the prize draw is optional and requires providing your participant ID and email address, which will be stored separately from your experimental responses.

Risks and Benefits

Participating in this study does not entail risks greater than those ordinarily encountered in daily life. You may experience listening fatigue; please take breaks as needed. Remember that you can pause and resume the experiment at any time. We cannot guarantee that you will receive any direct benefits from this study, though your participation contributes to music perception research.

Data Protection and Confidentiality

Your data will be identified by a code known only to the research team, not by your name. Digital data will be stored with access control systems. Only anonymized data will be published, and anonymized data may be hosted or published in a public repository.
